Description

Leaving his Irish monastery for the first time, a young novice (Tom Holland, Spiderman: Homecoming) departs with a devoted group of monks and a mysterious former Crusader (Jon Bernthal, “The Punisher”) as they attempt to transport a holy relic to Rome. Threatened at every turn by savage tribes, traitorous Norman soldiers and those that seek the power they believe the relic holds, the young man finds surprising courage while faced with deadly challenges that will push his body, mind and spirit to the breaking point.

It’s so beautifully shot. The acting is perfect and the action is great. I love Tom, Jon, Richard & Stanley! Though I wish the ending with The Mute and Diarmuid was different it was realistic.

There's a character to represent every view and opinion of Christianity, with intelligent thematic commentary on each. Whether you are or aren't religious, something will speak to you. The actors are presented with unique challenges of unfamiliar or even extinct languages, and, in Bernthal's case, no language at all. Each excel impressively well, and the film, as a result, feels authentic in its ancient setting. Scenes of heavy violence feel realistic to the period, but are not for the squeamish. If you're here as a fan of Bernthal, Holland, or Armitage, this is quite different from their other works, but you will not be disappointed by their performances. Not for the especially casual viewer- it requires a bit of thinking and may be hard to follow without full attention (or the aid of closed captions). Definitely a unique work and story.

Filmmaker just ran out of ideas and the movie just ended. Dumb.

Fair acting but not much of a storyline or purpose in this film. Decent for a $0.99 rental, but that's about it.
  • Amazing on every level

This is an incredible film. There is a very deep undertone that I took from it, and although many are complaining about it, that undertone is very loudly and powerfully echoed with the last line of the film. Bernthal is incredible as always.

I was expecting something different. It did show the tension between good and evil. Serving the Church versus God. Well acted all around. Ending was a bit flat
  • Borring and non-sensical

These guys don't have a clue about making a good movie or about religion
  • Phenomenal

Definitely not what I expected. The ending was realistic, no sappy happily ever after that is so common these days so I was fine with it.
  • Deserves three stars.

Not a very strong plot line. Certainly not worth watching it again. But it wasn’t so bad that it deserves one star. It was definitely a two star movie.
