Description

Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen and Leslie Mann star in this seriously funny unrated version of the film from writer-director Judd Apatow (The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up). When famous comedian George Simmons (Sandler) is given a second chance at a new beginning, he and his assistant, a struggling comedian, Ira (Rogen), return to the places and people that matter most…including the stand-up spots that gave him his start and the girl that got away (Mann). Co-starring Jonah Hill, Eric Bana and Jason Schwartzman, it’s the film critics cheer is “uproariously funny!” (Sonny Bunch, The Washington Times).

This Jewish movie written by a Jewish guy with Jewish comedians isn't working. Thumbs down. Rogan is not funny at all. Sandler is lacking a lot. And Leslie Mann isn't funny. Judd apatow sucked

With such a great cast you'd think it would have been hilarious. Instead, I wish I could get my money back. I just didn't get it.

Funny People is an emotional roller coaster ride that laughs through its tears. It told the story that many people knew about but were afraid to really tell, the dark side of stand up comedy. George Simmonds is the quintessential definition of being famous. He exists in this movie as a metaphor for the lives of comedians and the life of comedy itself. Simmonds also mirrors the man who brought him to life, Adam Sandler. His carrier is so eerily similar Sandler's that it almost makes you wonder if any of this could be autobiographical. The dramatic performances in this are outstanding. Sandler can do a depressing role like as if he was born into drama. Seth Rogen did a pretty good job playing an oaf with a breaking heart. Leslie Mann's performance surprised me, considering that she normally plays shallow and cocky in every film leading up to this, you really feel for her this time. As far as the comedy spectrum of this film goes, the jokes were sharp and very funny. I didn't think that drama overpowered the comedy or vice versa. The balance between them was perfect. All in all, Funny People is an amazing piece of art. While Judd Apatow still remains my favorite directer/producer/writer as implied in my previous reviews, this is a film that backs up my claim with convincing evidence. Apatow is not a true comedian, but a true filmmaker. Big thumbs up.

I was scratching my head during this. I couldn't figure out why I was not laughing when I did see all these funny people around. I completely realize that the humor comes through "real-life pain" and all that, but whatever, it's still not funny. And if it was just a straight-up honest drama, that'd be okay. But it's not - it goes for humor in several situations where it only falls flat. The only triumph here is seeing Aubrey Plaza (who is actually funny) and Jason Schwartzman (who seems to be the only actor who understands the temperature of the film.) A big, long, painful waste of time. I felt angry and irritable after watching it.

A horrible, horrible movie. Sandler's character is so unrealistic and pathetic. The plot also was kind of predictable...What happened, Adam????? How did it end--did he find out he wasn't dying after all? I can't remember--that's how bad and forgettable it was.

I wil keep it short and simple. THe absolute worst movies I have seen. The actors were good, don't get me wrong, but the story of movie was just so incredible bad written. I'm sorry I would have liked to love this movie, but I can't.
