The newly imagined DC universe with a singular blend of epic action, humor and heart, delivering a Superman who's driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind.

Superman 2.5 is what we’re discussing! Granted there was things that were corny like a plastered Supergirl! BUT to be fair there were corny things about Christopher Reeves as Superman! And I’ll try not to get started with Superman 4 Quest for peace! It may not be near the legacy of Christopher Reeves but it arguably comes close! A lot of us were baffled by James Gunn taking over DC’s universe, but I feel the this new Superman should make everything forgiven for it!
Super mediocre

This movie fails to please on so many levels. Not an engaging story in any way and repeatedly disappoints. Not worth it.

James Gunn’s SUPERMAN is a myth reborn. Wounded, questioning, and more human than we’ve ever seen. It strips away the mythic untouchability of Earth’s greatest hero and let’s us see not just the god, but the man. In doing so, Gunn offers a deeply political, romantic, and existentially vulnerable film disguised in a cape and boots. What I love about this version of SUPERMAN is how audacious its central thesis is. What is Superman’s origin was a lie? What if his Kryptonian birthright was not peace, but dominion…and what if the hero we believed in chooses to be good in spite of that? When the film came out first day, I didn’t leave the theater believing in Superman. I left wanting to be him. An easy “must buy” for me.

Wow!! DC is back and Better than ever!!! Watch out Marvel and the MCU, you’ve got some amazing competition for the years to come.
Now I know so many out there were disappointed when Warner said Henry Cavil would no longer portray Superman, myself included since I’ve been a huge fan since I was 10 years old in 2013. That said, walking out of this movie experience…. I haven’t been awe inspired by a production of Superman since I was a little kid watching the original 1940s cartoon they played in the waiting area of Ruby’s Diners with my parents.
David Corenswet truly feels like the Man of Steel ripped straight out of the original Comic book stories and gives the classic portrayal done by Christopher Reeve in 1978 a fresh coat of paint suited to the times we live in. Similar to Tom Hollands portrayal as Spider Man in the MCU, this Superman is truly a compassionate human character who does good simply because it is right. As well as doing it in a way that allows us in the audience to connect with their character.
That is something both studios have had problems with in the last decade of superhero movies, with some exceptions in the last 4 years, overshooting the qualities of their characters that allow us to recognize they are also people too, not just the perfect heroes we see in pictures. But complex and highly varied individuals who face issues anyone of us face everyday. That is this Superman’s greatest strength, yes he’s strong and powerful, but his power doesn’t make him who he is. His actions in the pursuit of justice creates a bridge that connects to the good in all of us.
On a personal note, this movie really hit home on certain points. As the grandson of immigrants, watching an immigrant hero who is the symbol of the American way was humbling and refreshing to see on the big screen. With the IRL problems affecting the country now, it was a shock to see the movie reflect the social issues we face as of today.
Lastly, the visuals and action were top notch in a way that fulfills the bar expectations of any great Superhero movie. Admittedly, compared to Man of Steel some of it was not fully match, but this Superman more that makes up for it in his different yet familiar execution. James Gunn has truly laid the foundation of the DC Universe going forward for now on, finally creating a worthy challenge to give Marvel a fair run for their money. All in all, can’t wait to see what the future holds for the franchise going forward and that fans, new or returning, will recognize this Icon of Cinema. For Superman has finally returned after all these years
